Of all the days to have an inaugural post, St Patrick’s Day seems appropriate. While all the bars are closed in Michigan in the wake of COVID-19, I can still dream of the day when we will finally open. But it looks like I’ll need to use my own green food coloring to make green beer this year.
Just over one year ago, Molly and I began this adventure on a frigid February day when I clicked the ‘Submit’ button that brought Doster Brewing Co LLC into existence. After dreaming of running my own business since I was child, it was a bit anti-climatic to be honest. I envisioned scaling a stairway reminiscent of Angkor Wat to the “Temple of Business” where the scroll demands your name in blood and has ramifications for the afterlife. I guess we can chalk it up to the fact that literally anything can be done on the internet these days, lol.

I would like to say that I have spent the last year coated in hop slime while shoveling out a mash tun, but alas starting a brewery is a slow process. The production facility Remodel, financing and jumping through legal hurdles have dominated the past year. Although it has been very slow going, we sure have learned a lot through this process. As it warms up outside, I hope to continue work on getting the pole barn to a production-ready state (i.e. pouring concrete and improving the driveway). Be sure to follow the Remodel posts to stay tuned,
I hope you are staying safe and healthy out there. Raise a glass of your favorite beer to brighter days ahead.
Happy St Paddy’s Day! Sláinte!
